How the Workshops Work
The shared methodology behind all three programmes
Each Mekong Advisors workshop follows a consistent structure. A session outline is shared with participants before the date. Sessions begin on time, proceed through the planned material, and include a defined period for questions. The facilitator does not improvise content.
Group size is capped — typically six to ten participants. This cap is not a marketing claim; it is enforced. When a session is full, the next available date is offered. The limit exists because financial questions are personal, and a larger room does not leave space for them.
Every session includes printed materials that participants keep. These are not handouts summarising the slides. They are resources designed to remain useful over the months and years after the session — notebooks, prompt sheets, reference packets.
Workshop One
The Quiet Investor's Notebook
In this three-evening workshop, participants begin a personal investing notebook of the kind once kept by patient long-term investors. The facilitator introduces a structured set of prompts — what was learned this month, what was misunderstood, which household conversations took place — and explains the long tradition of keeping such a notebook as a way to think more clearly over many years.
Each participant leaves with a bound blank notebook and a printed prompt sheet for the months ahead. The session is not about picking investments. It is about building a thinking habit that holds over time.
What Participants Take Away
- A bound blank notebook, ready to use
- A printed prompt sheet for monthly personal review
- Familiarity with the long-form note-keeping tradition in personal finance
- A starting entry, begun during the session
Workshop Two
Currency, Travel and Cross-Border Money
A one-day workshop on the financial side of an increasingly cross-border life at 40+. The session covers currency exchange habits, the considerations of holding savings in more than one currency, the structure of international transfers from Thailand, and the patient considerations of property or family commitments overseas.
The facilitator presents the material as background education rather than transactional advice. Participants leave with a clearer picture of the options and trade-offs involved in managing money across national boundaries from a Thailand base.
Session Coverage
- Currency exchange: habits, timing, and conversion costs
- Multi-currency savings: structure and considerations
- International transfer mechanics from Thailand
- Property and family commitments overseas
- Thai regulatory reference packet (current to workshop date)
Workshop Three
Considered Withdrawal: Drawing on Savings in Later Life
A small-group programme of four sessions over two months on the careful question of how to draw on accumulated savings in retirement. The facilitator walks through several frameworks discussed in long-standing personal-finance literature, alongside the local context of Thai pensions, provident funds, and family arrangements.
The programme produces a personal written framework that participants can revisit and update as circumstances change. Materials include a printed companion booklet that supports the framework between and after sessions.
Programme Structure
- Session 1: How savings withdrawal has been thought about
- Session 2: The Thai context — pensions, provident funds, family
- Session 3: Applying frameworks to your own situation
- Session 4: Completing and reviewing your personal written framework
- Printed companion booklet included throughout

Standards Held Across All Workshops
What every session at Mekong Advisors shares, regardless of which programme you attend
Participant Privacy
What participants share in a session stays within the session. No information is shared with third parties.
No Product Placement
Mekong Advisors receives no referral fees and holds no commercial relationships with financial product providers.
Materials Updated Each Run
Reference material — particularly the Thai regulatory content — is reviewed before each session, not carried over unchanged from a prior run.
Participant Feedback
A short feedback form is distributed after every session. Responses are read and considered before the next run of the same workshop.
Group Size Enforced
The participant cap is maintained. When a session is full, the next available date is offered. No exceptions are made to accommodate an additional booking.
Transparent About Scope
The facilitator is clear about what can and cannot be addressed. Questions requiring individual advice are acknowledged honestly.
